AWA is an established non-profit with forty years of providing quality spay/neuter, basic preventive care and adoption services. The surgery team performs around 40 surgeries per day. Each vet is a member of a team focused to ensure our high quality standards for both shelter and owned animals. Candidates must have surgical skills, quality diagnostic knowledge and professionalism. Primary Responsibilities and Duties: Oversee the medical care of shelter animals, perform surgical sterilizations of both shelter and owned animals. Oversee and perform surgical monitoring, the administration of pre-anesthetic and anesthetic drugs, and post-surgical monitoring through discharge. Administer vaccines to clinic patients. Comply with the applicable state and federal laws established by the New Jersey Veterinary Board of Medical Examiners and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA)
Shelter and Clinic Veterinarian Requirements:
Degree in veterinary medicine from an accredited university of veterinary medicine. Obtain veterinary licensure in NJ. Two years' experience practicing veterinary medicine. Experience with shelter medicine and high-volume spay-and-neuter ( HQHVSN)surgeries. Possession of or ability to obtain a DEA controlled-substance registration. Proven effective organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail. Commitment to the objectives of the organization.
