Humane Alliance: A Program of the ASPCA


Description: Summary of Purpose: Responsible for medical exam and services provided at the Healthy Pets Clinic (HPC).

Duties (Essential Functions):
• Perform medical examination of animals, including but not limited to auscultation of lungs and heart, visual exam of eyes, ears, skin, teeth and rectum
• Vaccinate animals according to VMA approved standards
• Draw blood samples for testing.
• Interpret diagnostic testing and advise pet owners of diagnosis and recommended course of action
• Diagnose and prescribe treatment for illnesses and injuries within scope of HPC services
• Refer clients to veterinarians for any follow up care/needs and issues out of HPC scope of services.
• Take digital x-rays and interpret results, providing pet owners with information and the determined issue and course of action within HPC scope of services.
• Perform owner requested euthanasia, providing compassionate service.
• Ensure efficient operation of medical services team, including supervising veterinarian assistants and recommending process improvements.

• Appropriate accreditation and certifications
• License to practice veterinary medicine in Kentucky
• Ability to lift and use full range of motion to include standing, stooping, bending
• Ability to work independently with little direct supervision
• Ability to lead others
• Good conflict resolution skills
• Good organizational and analytical skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills with clients, staff and volunteers

Physical Demands/Working Environment
• Frequent bending, reaching, feeling and or handling, kneeling, walking and standing on a regular basis while performing job functions.
• Frequently lifts, carries or otherwise moves and positions objects weighing up to and exceeding 50lbs.
• Individual will have extended periods of talking and hearing.
• Includes working in an indoor environment handling animals.
