Job Title: Associate Veterinary Surgeon

Reports to: Medical Director, Director of Clinic Operations
Work Relationships: Executive Director, Medical Director, Director of Clinic Operations, Staff Surgeons and Support Staff, Volunteers
Terms of Employment: This position is a full-time, salaried, exempt position. This position requires high quality, high volume spay/neuter surgery.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
Clinic Operations:
• Perform four days of high quality, high-volume, spay/neuter surgery at one of our three locations: San Pedro, Pico Rivera, or Mission Hills.
• Daily shift is from 8am to 4pm.
• Required to stay on site until all surgical patients are fully recovered
• Reachable for consultation with other veterinarians performing rechecks on your surgical cases and veterinarians performing emergency afterhours care.
• Available for quarterly staff veterinary meetings
• Ensure accurate record keeping (i.e. veterinary signature, prescribed medication, patient/surgical abnormalities)
• Liaise with the on duty RVT to ensure an efficient surgical flow
• Must examine surgical rechecks and address vaccine reactions throughout the day – rechecks may be from surgeries other surgeons have performed
• Must adhere to medical protocols
• At all times, this position requires the surgeon to provide quality service to clients, patients and staff and to represent SNP LA in a courteous and professional manner
• It is imperative as a SNP LA employee that a positive and constructive attitude is always present while on shift with SNP LA
Qualifications
• Have and maintain a valid license with the California veterinary medical board
• Have and maintain liability insurance
• Veterinary license must be in good standing with the California Medical Board
• Must have at least 2 years small animal medicine experience
• Ability to perform an average of 40 spay/neuter surgeries per day
• Exceptional communication skills
• Excellent customer service skills
• Able to maintain a professional demeanor at all times
Physical Requirements
• Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds
• Ability to perform the physical demands of surgery, including but not necessarily limited to bending, crouching, stooping, reaching with hands and arms, manipulating surgical instruments and having normal levels of vision and hearing
